Rocker Chic

I'm quite proud of this look, Abbey and I had a blast.

For the makeup, I used a lighter yellow shade and then a more vibrant one to make her eyes pop, and then lined with black liner and coated her lashes with mascara. Once that was finished, I used false lash adhesive to to glue purple flower petals to Abbey's eyelashes very close to the eyelid. I finished the look with nude lipstick and sheer gloss.

With the hair, I separated a section in the front and then pulled back the rest of it into a high ponytail. I curled the ponytail and then combed through it until the curl was loose. I then curled the front section and teased it up. The result is the pictures below, and for references, I (Melissa) am the brunette and Abbey is the blond.

Well I realize this is kinda sucky as far as an actual first post goes, but Abbey and I were up all night being insane and watching True Blood, so excuse the bad quality of the pictures.

I curled her hair in small sections with a 1/2 inch barrel and hairsprayed it, after which I ran a large tooth comb through it to loosen the curls.

For makeup, I used Physician's Formula eye shadow with yellow at the inner corners and pink at the outer edges and in the crease. I lined her eyes with Maybelline gel liner and then used mascara to enhance her eyelashes. Below are pictures of the products I used, and then pictures of the result.

"I think this could be the start of a pretty big adventure."

It's a little intimidating starting a blog. It's a commitment, a pact, a great big opportunity for epic failure. I've started a lot of things...only to quit them three weeks later. New Year's resolutions? I've completely given up on them. Diets? Yeesh. Let's not go there.

But this blog is hopefully going to be something more than a failed diet or a resolution to go to bed earlier. I, we, want it to be a record of what we accomplish in the next few years, a way to say 'hey, I did something while I was stuck here in this little town against my will.' And us? Well, we're just mostly insane girls trying to navigate this post-high school world that we feel strangly unprepared for, but we've got bit hearts and big dreams.

I'm Melissa, also known as Mel, Lissa, and Missy, the writing half of this duo who will be most likely penning and running this blog. I'm 19, almost 20, which sounds ridiculously old, and a student at a local community college studying to be a medical transcriptionist. Gold star for you if you know what that is. I chose to stay home after graduating high school after one of my parents had a life-changing event and now needs constant care. It's taken me a while to come to grips with that sacrifice, but I'm determined to make the best of it and I think it has made me more driven to accomplish my goals. My goal is what is the reason behind starting this blog in the first place. I hope to move to LA in two years and attend a make up artistry school, specifically Joe Blasco Makeup School in LA if I can get in, and pursue a career as a makeup artist. If not, well I'm sure I'll learn a ton and I'll still have a degree to fall back on. This blog is a place for me to build a portfolio and hopefully make some new friends in the process.

My right hand woman is Abbey, who will be featured as the model for most of the looks I post here. She is an extremely talented singer who is classically trained and branching out into other styles. She is a music major at a local community college and is planning to transfer to USC in two years to get her bachelor's in music performance, and we'll see where life takes her from there. From time to time I may post some of her performance videos to showcase her talent. She is an extremely sweet person and a kick-ass friend, I don't know what I'd do without her.

All make up supplies being used are, for now, available at local drugstores. Most of the time I will try to post a finished look with hair also done, but I'm sure there will be some times where that doesn't happen.

I will end with a quote/paraphrase from my favorite movie, the 2007 version of Hairspray.

Our Goal

The goal of this blog is to inspire you, and us. This is a intimate record of not only our growth stylistically, but of our hopes and dreams as we attain them. We believe that makeup is not meant to cover up our faces, but to enhance our best features and make every woman feel special and unique. No amount of makeup will cover up an ugly heart, and it is our goal to be truthful, kind, and loving where ever our lives may take us.
